With hotter weather than Los Angeles at the moment, I think we can finally say winter is coming to an end and spring is in the air.
We have been sitting in the garden for breakfast for the last few mornings and it’s been totally wonderful. I can’t believe we are only at the end of February, beginning of March, and we are experiencing weather like this!
Long may it continue so we can all get back in the water kayaking and paddle boarding! I am not a winter water person, but as soon as the sun is out, I am ready to go!
While running this morning, I had to strip off to a t-shirt and shorts. We have been fully covered in long leggings, running jackets and gloves for the past few months, so to let the sunshine onto our skin was a massive treat.
Now it’s time to think about how to make the skin as gorgeous as possible in order to strip the layers off and exposes some flesh over the coming months. The best things to do is to prepare from the inside out. In other words, cleanse the body, eat the right foods and the skin will look after itself.
The ideal way to give it a boost is to add some skin-enhancing foods into your daily regime and cut out all the junk. That means processed foods, chocolate, meats, crisps, wine and dairy. There are so many words branded around about detoxing and cleansing, but what exactly does this mean?
Detoxing or cleansing basically refers to removing toxic waste materials from the body. It is crucial to detox your body every now and again to regenerate your health, vitality and energy and one of the easiest ways to do this is to include some cleansing, fruits than contain essential vitamins, minerals and ant-oxidants in your diets that can power charge your system to give it the welcome boost that it needs.
Two of my favourite cleansing fruits are Papaya and Pomegranate. Papaya is known for its richness in Vitamin C and Vitamin A, and the large amount of magnesium and potassium they contain makes it an amazing array of anti- oxidants that feed the body, skin and hair to look its best. Not only this, it contains an enzyme called Papain which helps in the breakdown of protein in your digestion.
I say this all the time, but trust me when I say, if your digestion is happy, then this will reflect well on the rest of your body in good health. This incredible beta carotene fruit has also been observed to prevent lung and mouth cancers, so it’s important to realise just how powerful it is. Papaya is best consumed fresh if you can and can be included in your salads or as a snack during the day.
Pomegranate offers a great form of fibre, so keeps the digestive system happy, too. It is also considered fantastic for the heart as it helps regulate cholesterol, thins the blood to prevent clots from forming, and lowers blood pressure. They contain polyphenols which are powerful anti-oxidants, which in turn help to boost your immunity and help improve your memory.
Pomegranates contain 48 per cent of our recommended vitamin C intake and due to its high amount of anti- oxidants, helps to protect the body against free radical damage, which makes them extremely helpful to treat acne breakouts and dark or dry spots on the skin. They help to naturally brighten the skin as encourage increased levels of oxygen in our blood and just one cup of each of these wonderful health-enhancing fruits per day and you have yourself a great cocktail of cleansing properties that are going to make you look and feel fabulous in order to be healthy, energetic and beach ready!
Enjoy the sunshine!
